Thunderbird – Automated setup

  1. Open Mozilla Thunderbird.
  2. Click “Add Mail Account” in the “Account settings” menu.
  3. Specify the following:
    • Your name, as you want it to appear in any messages you send.
    • Your email address and password.
  4. Click “Continue”.
  5. Thunderbird will automatically set up the settings.

Thunderbird – Manual setup

The instructions provided in this section were verified against Mozilla Thunderbird 31.4.0. They might not work with earlier or later versions of Mozilla Thunderbird.

To set up Mozilla Thunderbird:

  • Open Mozilla Thunderbird.
  • Click Email under the Create a new account heading.
  • Click the Skip this and use my existing email button.
  • Specify the following:
    • Your name, as you want it to appear in any messages you send.
    • Your email address and password.
  • Click Continue.
  • If Thunderbird fails to find the settings automatically, click Manual config and specify the following:
    • Username = Your full email address
    • Password = The password you were given specifically for your email account.
    • Incoming mail server (IMAP)
      • Server hostname = your domain name e.g. example.com
      • Port = 993
      • SSL = TLS
      • Authentication = encrypted password
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP)
      • Server hostname = your domain name e.g. example.com
      • Port = 465
      • SSL = TLS
      • Authentication = encrypted password
  • Click Done.
